Family Mediation Manitoba Inc. is a non-profit interdisciplinary association, organized to promote family mediation across Manitoba. We are affiliated with Family mediation Canada (FMC) but are a stand alone association.

Our members are judges, lawyers, social workers, psychologists, court workers, lay-persons, and others.

Family Mediation Manitoba Inc. has existed since 1986. Throughout these years, it has been run as a voluntary organization.

Family Mediation Manitoba Inc. promotes mediation and provides training and networking opportunities. Until 2005 we were a provincial affiliate of Family Mediation Canada. We have since become a stand alone organization but members have the option of belonging to both FMM and FMC. Through our association with Family Mediation Canada, our members have received many benefits, including newsletters, conferences, a Code of Ethics, and a process for certification as a Family Relations, Financial, or Comprehensive Mediator. Family Mediation Canada has developed a certification program for family mediators. Those interested in certification will have to meet experience and educational requirements and pass a procedural skills-based assessment and a written test on relevant knowledge.

Finding a Mediator

When hiring a mediator you should obtain the following information:

Manitoba Justice and Manitoba Family Services and Housing offer a limited comprehensive mediation internship for professionals in the area of separation/divorce. Minimum eligibility requirements include a post secondary degree and 40 hours of mediation training.
